Imer Santiago Quintet performs at The Jazz Cave

The Imer Santiago Quintet will make its debut at the Nashville Jazz Workshop's Contemporary Jazz Series, Sunday, April 3, 7:00pm in the Jazz Cave. Admission is $10 for more information visit www.nashvillejazz.org or call (615) 242-5299.

Trumpeter, composer, arranger, and educator Imer Santiago hails from Lorain, Ohio. He first, began playing trumpet at age nine while in the 5th grade. His interest in pursuing music as a career commenced during his high school years, leading Imer to pursue an undergraduate degree in Jazz Studies at Ohio State University. At OSU, Imer studied under trumpet master Pharez Whitted for five years. Upon graduating, Imer attended graduate school at the University of New Orleans, where he continued his music education with great local teachers & musicians such as Ellis Marsalis, Wendell Brunious, Harold Batiste, Steve Masakowski, Clyde Kerr Jr., and Ed Petersen.

Imer and his wife currently reside in Nashville, TN, where he teaches middle school band at W.A. Bass, leads the Imer Santiago Quintet, the Imer Santiago Quartet, co-leads the World Music band El Movimiento, performs and records with various artists and ensembles throughout Nashville, the United States and abroad.
 

The show starts at 7:00pm and features Imer on trumpet and flugelhorn, Roland Barber (trombone), Tyson Rogers (piano), Ivan Santiago (bass), and John Westbury (drums).

About the series: The Contemporary Jazz Series, hosted by Rahsaan Barber, is designed to present new, original, and cutting edge jazz that may not have been heard before in the Jazz Cave. Describing "contemporary jazz," series host Rahsaan Barber explained that "just as the jazz of Ella Fitzgerald and Count Basie was influenced by musicians’ and audiences’ affinities for the blues of Beale Street and the bright lights of Broadway, so it is with contemporary jazz, which draws much influence from more modern strains of American music -- including funk, gospel, hip hop -- and more international 'cargo,' including Indian ragas, Cuban descargas and European classical music."
