Thursday and Friday evenings from May 5 through May 26, 2011, visitors will be invited to create a miniature version of a finely crafted functional Shaker object. Utilizing traditional materials, visitors will experience the simplicity and perfection developed by the Shakers while making an eight-inch replica of a Shaker broom. The broom will be a fully functional hand broom. All ages are encouraged to participate.

This activity has been developed in conjunction with Gather Up the Fragments: The Andrews Shaker Collection, which focuses upon the collection of Faith and Edward Deming Andrews. More than 270 objects, including furniture, drawings, household objects, textiles, baskets and kitchen implements, will be exhibited from May 20 through August 21, 2011. The art-making activity in the Grand Lobby is free and open to all visitors.
