Add Review/Comment
Modern Masters from the Smithsonian American Art Museum examines the complex and diverse nature of American art in the mid-twentieth century. Vivien Green Fryd, Chair of the Department of Art History at Vanderbilt University, takes a closer look at the rise of American abstraction by examining works from some of the most celebrated artists of the time, such as Franz Kline, Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Motherwell, Louise Nevelson, and Romare Bearden. Following the lecture, a guided tour of the exhibition will be offered.
