    The 145-hour Teaching English as a Second Language Certificate Program celebrates its eleventh anniversary this year. This program includes training in the fundamentals of Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), with the purpose of preparing its graduates to teach ESL in a variety of classroom settings both locally and globally.

    Student should have or should be approaching completion of a Bachelor’s degree. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is mandatory for non-native speakers of English. Student should be prepared to devote a full-time schedule to this course.

    Students who are absent from 15% or more of the classes may continue but may not receive a certificate. Student must obtain a passing grade on all assignments and practice teaching sessions. Student should have access to a computer and e-mail at all times. You must have basic word processing skills, internet, and e-mail.

        The 145-hour program is structured such that students can complete their certificate in a 4-month period. The course is divided into five components:


        1. Orientation (required): 10:00 am - 1:00 pm Thursday, May 12


        2. Observations (approx. 7 hours): TBD


        3. Pre-Class Assignments (20 hours+): May 12- June 2


        4. In-Class Training* (115 hours): June 2 - June 27


        5. Field Experience: July 5 - September 31 (approximately)
