Scarritt-Bennett Center’s Wisdom House will present Engine of Happiness: Ancient Prescriptions for Modern Bliss through the Wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism, a weekend retreat for those who would like to understand and learn to apply principles of Tibetan Buddhism to everyday life.

While the teachings presented are from the Tibetan Buddhist viewpoint, they can be applied to any spiritual tradition.

Retreat participants will learn the causes for happiness and the principles of Tibetan Buddhism, how to apply these ideas to relationships, family and work, and explore ways to find the magical in everyday life. Methods used will include meditation, yoga and readings. In addition, the retreat will include a special session on taking creativity to the highest level.

The retreat will be led by husband and wife Rick Blue and Lindsay Crouse. Both completed the advanced Asian Classics Institute teacher-training program in 2010. They helped found the Mahasukha Center in Los Angeles, Calif., and are now senior teachers there. They have studied under the Dalai Lama and continue to study with Venerable Sumati Marut, Geshe Michael Roach, and Lama Christie McNally.

Crouse, an Academy Award-nominated actress (“Places in the Heart” / “House of Games”/ “CSI”) who has taught directing at USC Graduate Film School and acting at major universities around the country, merged her love of Buddhism and art by creating a unique series of teachings blending the craft of acting with the philosophy of dharma. Blue works in the television and film industry as an editor and director (“Scrubs” / “Mr. Sunshine”). He was able to merge his interest in Buddhism with his work when he edited the feature documentary, “In search of Kundun with Martin Scorcese.”
