OFFICIAL SELECTION: TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

After 16 years, alcoholic salesman Nick Porter (Will Ferrell) is fired abruptly, though apparently not unexpectedly. Returning home to find that his wife had the locks changed and laid out his possessions on the front lawn, Nick appropriates the area as his living room while proceeding with an absurdly escalating "garage sale" (legal for five consecutive days in Plano, TX) that becomes a unique strategy for survival amid circling neighbors and his former AA sponsor, a detective in a position to bide Nick some time. First-time filmmaker Dan Rush succeeds in adapting Raymond Carver's short story "Why Don't You Dance?", a feat that is consistently engaging while being a testament to Carver's evocative style of minimalism.
