Opening Reception for "Hot Stuff"  May 28, 2011, featuring two nationally respected artists working in very different ways in the field of encaustic. Show runs May 28th through June 25th.

Lorraine Glessner's work involves the complex interrelation of materials collaged in encaustic. Silks and other fabrics, threads, paper, paint, and found items layered in wax provide a visual journey as complex, and yet as natural, as life itself. "All living things leave a physical mark -- a stain or imprint through the natural cycle of creation and birth, life and growth, death and the regeneration of life through decomposition," says Glessner. As serious as that observation is, Glessner's works are visually uplifting, fanciful, and rich in colors, textures and details that challenge the imagination.

Howard Hersh is a third-generation artist whose multi-paneled, large-format works in oil have been exhibited widely. With twenty-five solo shows and over one hundred group exhibitions, Hersh's work is in prominent public spaces in the United States, Japan, China, Indonesia, and Africa. A native Californian, Hersh has followed a lifelong passion for nature and beauty, which is clearly reflected in his art.
