Sakia Gunn was a 15 year old African American lesbian who was murdered in a hate crime on the night of May 11, 2009. While returning home from a night out, Gunn and her friends were propositioned by two men. When the girls rejected their advances and declared that they were lesbians, the men physically attacked them. Even though Gunn fought back, one of the men stabbed her in the chest and both fled the scene in their vehicle. Gunn's friends flagged down a passing car that drove her to a nearby Hospital where she died.
