Midnight Movies is a continuing bi-monthly series dedicated to the exhibition of cult films in a non-shushed environment. This weekend features The Big Lebowski.

A shaggy caper of philosophies, this modern classic from The Coen Brothers is a hymn to the individual; a film noir refracted through the prism of the first Gulf War and classic Western tales, with bawdy artists, high-stakes bowling, techno-pop anarchists, robbery, sex, violence, and some of the most eminently quotable dialogue in the past decade and a half. The Dude abides. With a staggering number of Oscar winners, the father of Madonna's first child, Tara Reid, and Jacob from Lost.
