Enjoy a night of live music at Douglas Corner Cafe with Josh Mullins & Friends

"Country music has been a part of my life ever since I can remember. It always seemed to communicate the things that I never could say. But the songs, the lyrics always seemed to say it all for me. And it’s still like that for me today. Hey guys, I’m Josh and I want to start out by saying “thanks”. Thanks for stopping by my page (even if you didn’t mean to), thanks for listening to my songs, thanks for coming to my shows. Whatever you’ve done to show interest in what I’m doing musically I really appreciate it. For those of you who don’t know me here’s a little bit about me and my story and how I got to Nashville and how I’ve ended up where I am right now. I grew up in Maryland which most people wouldn’t think of as a country music loving state. But in the rural parts of Carroll County where I grew up, country music spoke to our way of living. Growing up, I think deep down I always knew music was my passion and I knew I wanted a career in the music business. But for me, it was just about finding the courage to leave home and pursue the unknown. I took off for Virginia Tech the year after I graduated high school with the intentions of majoring in marketing. That lasted about all of three weeks until I saw a show on CMT called Inside Fame. This particular episode featured Lee Ann Womack where she talked about her early days in and around Music Row. She talked about going after a degree in music business at Belmont University here in Nashville. Up until that point I had never heard of a music business degree, but knew I wanted one. I packed up, moved to Nashville that next semester and set my sights on the town and business I grew up wanting to be a part of. After graduating Belmont, armed with my music business degree in hand (along with 400 of my closest friends that I graduated with that semester), I was determined to get as many doors opened for me and my music as I could. I had four internships my senior year alone and was able to land a job with the Country Music Association right out of school. Working for the CMA was great. It got me into a lot of places that before, I would have never had access. I networked every chance I got trying to meet as many people as I could. I wanted the people in the business to get to know me as a person and as a worker before I wanted to let them know I was a musician. It was during this time I started to form my band and started playing out in and around Nashville. I went back to Belmont, put up some flyers and found a talented and dedicated band willing to take a chance with me. We’ve been playing Nashville clubs for months now gearing up for our first label showcase which will take place in the first part of 2011. I can’t tell you how pumped I am for this opportunity. I’m proud of my band and proud of the fact that with every show I feel us growing and evolving musically. 2011 is going to be an awesome year and I can’t wait! That last sentence probably would have been a good place to stop, but if you know me, you know I tend to ramble and talk too much and have a hard time putting periods at the end of my sentences. Seriously, this is a problem for me. But I feel like there’s more that I need to tell you. And since you’ve read this far, maybe you’ll read a little further. I’m a Capricorn and while I don’t really follow my horoscope, I can tell you that I am pretty strong-willed, very passionate, driven and believe in hard work. I also like having a good time. I love music and living in Nashville and am proud of the relationships I’ve made here. That’s really what it’s all about right? I have no idea what the future holds, but I can say this journey of “getting there” has been awesome and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. If there’s anything else you want to know about me, just ask. I like to talk. Otherwise, hopefully you’ll find out more about me through my music. See you on the road." - Josh Mullins
