Nerdy Seymour Krelborn is a poor young man working in a run-down, Skid Row flower shop owned by crotchety Mr. Mushnik, alongside blonde bombshell Audrey. Audrey’s dream is to escape Skid Row and have an ideal suburban life. And Seymour… well, Seymour just dreams of Audrey. When he discovers a strange, exotic plant he names it “Audrey II” as a sign of his infatuation and tenderly nurses it to full bloom. Suddenly, Seymour becomes an overnight sensation as Audrey II grows larger than a Volkswagen, displays a talent for singing soulful rhythm and blues, and develops a ravenous, carnivorous appetite!
A street-smart girl group musically narrates with doo-wop, Motown, and early 60’s rock styles. Add a sadistic singing dentist and seven more roles with Greater Tuna-style quick changes, and you’ve got a hilarious B-movie musical with great songs, a dynamic cast and the BIGGEST villain to ever engulf the Playhouse stage! What will happen (gasp!) to Seymour and Audrey!!?? Will the ravenous, voracious plant spread like kudzu (oh no!) across Tennessee… and BEYOND??!!
