Dos Cobras, a group named after a southern folk art painting, Dos Serpentines, C. Hubbard, bring to the stage a three man front. All artists in their own right, the trio of pickers, singers and songwriters deliver a one-two punch of traditional honky tonk and southern rock.
Matthew Paige, in 2010, only 20 years old, went in on an old GMC school bus with his band Love Trucker in Vancouver Washington. It would serve as there home and transportation to Nashville. Literally on his way to meet his group for departure, it came to light that everyone was bailing, leaving him with a wrenching gut check. In this pivotal moment, Paige sat behind the wheel of his rattletrap bus and drove straight to Nashville, alone.
The first honky tonk he stepped into, Robert’s Western World, Paige would encounter db Harris and His Men of Action! Harris had built a career in Austin playing his songs for five years before moving to Nashville. He had toured in Europe a half dozen times, been covered by CMJ, The Onion, Austin Chronicle, No Depression, Nashville Scene and recently got the cover of Lonesome Highway magazine.
Firmly planted in Nashville for six years, Harris joined the songwriting community and was rewarded with a cut on new Opry star Sunny Sweeney’s Heartbreaker Hall of Fame, which landed her a deal with Big Machine Records. A WSM Opry Plaza show with The Derailers caught the attention of new fans in Nashville and WSM’s Americana Carnival would soon be in his future with the Dos Cobras brothers.
In another stroke of luck, Dave Gleason arrived right on time in Nashville from the west coast. Former guitar player and producer of Dwight Yoakam, Pete Anderson, mentions this of Gleason: ‘Dave Gleason is carrying on the Telecaster twang country music tradition as good as anybody, and I am glad that he is.’ Along with Anderson’s nod also comes similar respect from elder statesmen Dave Alvin, Deke Dickerson, and Derailer, Brian Hoefelt.
