Tom Hurst's Loud Jazz Jam

I've been working with Mervin from Douglas Corner to put together a regular jam, focused on jazz fusion, world music, and hip, challenging, classic pop material (Sting/Tears For Fears/The Police/Boz Scaggs/Zappa/the "Dan" of course etc.). We all know how "jams" can be. ;-) This is all about giving players the opportunity to stretch out/challenge ourselves, and play material outside the realm of the typical session, road and/or cover gig. With the amazing array of talent in this town my goal is simple: A.) Let everyone dig on each other's hidden abilities/chops, and B.) Give all of us another place to connect in turn leading to new opportunities for friendship, work, inspiration.

Each night will begin at 8pm, and continue through 11pm with the house band playing 3-4 tunes to start the night, followed by that evenings featured performer (for the 24th it's banjo fusion wiz Ryan Cavanaugh). After the featured guest(s) we'll start having folks sit in. (I'd like to get those that are interested in playing to email me in advance: tom@tomhurst.com.) Individuals are welcome to sit in with our band or other jammers, or bands can bring your own self-contained unit. (Just ask that the band be in the instrumental/"stretching out" vein of playing.) We'll be featuring select individuals with the house band each week so if your interested in that please hit me up. We'd be happy to learn a tune or two of yours/back you up.-Tom Hurst
