The Rymer Gallery is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition featuring new work by Catherine Forster. The show opens June 4, as part of the First Saturday Downtown Art Crawl and runs through June 25, 2011.   The 5th Avenue of the Arts starts an Artistic Summer with Collectors Art Night featuring cocktails at 5:30pm and conversation with the artist at 6:45pm on Friday, June 3.

Catherine Forster is an accomplished and professional artist and is collected by corporate and private collections and museums. Forster’s artwork has been shown at the Carnegie Art Museum, Orange County Contemporary Art Center, Exit Art (NY), Hyde Park Art Center Chicago, and the Contemporary Art Centre in Vilnius, Lithuania, to name a few. Films have been screened at the Sao Paulo International Short Film Festival, Simultan Media Arts Festival (Romania), Echo Park Film Center (LA), East Los Angeles Intl, South Bend Regional Art Museum, Flint Institute of Art. Film Festival, Magmart Film Festival Casoria International Contemporary Art Museum (Italy), Directors Lounge (Berlin), and San Diego International Women Film Festival.

Catherine Forster’s upcoming exhibition is titled, Still Waters. Still Waters is a celebration of water as magical substance, its color, texture, viscosity and marriage with light. Forster creates an environment where viewers can explore the multifaceted components of water, a substance we are always in fear of having too much of or too little.
Still Waters is a compilation of over 30 paintings, multiple videos, and large-scale prints on aluminum. Still Waters was first conceived as a video. Once the video was complete Forster a desire to create something physical, work inhabiting a presence beyond light. The painting series evolved as she wrestled with paint - a substance that is primarily water.

In addition, The Rymer Gallery will be presenting paintings in the mezzanine by James Pearson. James Pearson is an abstract painter based out of Franklin, KY. Pearson’s paintings are thoroughly joyful and creative. His creations are inspired from music and he uses his own guitar pick to apply the paint like a palette knife, and then etch into the wet surface.

James Pearson’s work is collected by both corporate and private collections throughout Tennessee and beyond. Examples of where Pearson’s work has been collected include: Ingram Publishing in Nashville, TN, Avenue Bank, Nashville, TN, the offices of Gucci in NYC, Pinnacle Financial Partners in Nashville, TN, and Western Kentucky Orthopedic Associates.

The gallery will host a public reception on June 4, 2011 for the First Saturday Downtown Art Crawl.
