Join fellow poetry enthusiasts for a monthly reading by a featured local poet. The environment is informal and conversation between the poet and audience is encouraged.

Mark James discovered writing later in life. Disabled from a chronic pain condition, he began writing to replace the continuous distraction of television with substance. After a few years of random political and religious pieces, he found his voice following a failed suicide attempt, and wrote "Burning Man", a 16 poem show intimately exposing his suffering, and subsequent revelation of life and living.

In October 2010, Mark traveled cross country performing in poetry houses and coffee shops honing the craft of performance.

Mark Self published his first book "Burning Man" as part of the tour, containing the pieces from the show and an additional 12 pieces ranging from abstract interpretation of society to the sing-songy "Before Roe V Wade" take on abortion.

Mark performs regularly in Louisville Ky, Mondays at "The Building" in Nashville, and monthly at Springwater's open mic.

Mark publishes all his pieces on www.facebook.com/markjamespoet, and is currently writing his second full length performance, "Minister of the Revolution", a call to creation as means of discovering the creator.

" I create light where darkness exists, love where fear exists, forgiveness where hate exists, enlightenment where self righteousness exists, truth where hypocrisy exists, god where religion exists."
