The filmography of Terrence Malick spans four decades and, with this summer's release of the highly anticipated THE TREE OF LIFE, includes only five features. While there are certainly far more prolific filmmakers, few have reached the heights of Malick's oeuvre - a transcendent body of work unified by a rapturous pictorial beauty and a sense of wonder often embodied by its pioneering characters. It's with great pleasure that we offer a chance to view Malick's earlier films chronologically in their intended format on a large screen. Critic Matt Zoller Seitz commented that "other people direct movies. Terrence Malick builds cathedrals". This June, church falls on Tuesday.

    DAYS OF HEAVEN
With cinematographer Nestor Almendros (COCKFIGHTER, THE WILD CHILD) and composer Ennio Morricone (the films of Sergio Leone, for starters), along with an insistence to shoot during "the golden hour" with mostly natural light, Malick created what many regard as one of the most strikingly beautiful films ever made. It tells the story of Bill (Richard Gere), an early-1900s Chicago steel-mill worker who flees town after accidentally killing a man. In search of a better life, he moves his girlfriend Abby (Brooke Adams) and younger sister Linda (Linda Manz, who narrates the film) to the wheat fields of Texas. But they run into tragedy when a wealthy farmer (Sam Shepard) falls for Abby.
