Travis Egnor 's debut EP, Pretty Bird, introduces a fresh songwriting voice, rooted in the mountains of his native West Virginia and shaped by classic styles ranging from Motown to Bakersfield.

Co-produced by Travis and underground legend George Bradfute, Pretty Bird is a collection of stories of love and loss, heartfelt and true. The title track is built around a simple melody and metaphor that would feel right at home in a Carter Family song. The straightforward chorus line “Will she love me/Like she does today” strips the tenderness of “Jessi's Song” down to raw emotion. A similar combination of beautiful melody, delicate arrangement and plaintive vocal underscores the sadness of “Mary Moves On.” The combination of mandolin and electric guitar create a unique primal atmosphere for the haunting vocals on “On the Highway.” A weeping steel guitar lends a classic country feel to the moody “Why Are We Lonely.” “I'll Never Forget Ol ' What 's Her Name” caps off the EP with a good dose of rowdy country music.

The songs on Pretty Bird are enhanced by the tasteful musicianship of Paul Burch, Fats Kaplin (Kristi Rose, Pure Prairie League, Kane Welch Kaplin), Viktor Krauss (Lyle Lovett, Bill Frisell, Jerry Douglas), Wes Langlois (Michelle Shocked), & Taryn Engle.
