Film Screening: In the Hank Williams Tradition (1990)
“A country singer’s role is as an interpreter,” explains Randy Travis in the documentary In the Hank Williams Tradition. “[The songs are] stories that people can relate to because the songs are about their lives. Hank Williams was one of the first to do it—and he did it the best.” In 1990, Travis and other country music artists gathered to create a film about the lasting influence of Hank Williams. The film also includes interviews with Roy Acuff, Chet Atkins, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Ricky Skaggs, Dwight Yoakam, and members of Hank’s band, the Drifting Cowboys. Hank Williams Jr. also shares memories from his childhood. Screened in support of the special exhibition Family Tradition: The Williams Family Legacy, Presented by SunTrust. Free.
