    Holy Trinity Episcopal Church announces the 16th annual Jazz on the Triangle series. This is a series of jazz concerts on the third Sundays of May, June, and July. This year's featured artists . . .

    July 17, Rip Patton Players
    Dr. Rip Patton, a native of Nashville, TN, received his education foundation in the city school system. After graduating from Pearl High School, where he was a drummer in the band, he entered Tennessee State University (then known as “Tennessee A and I”) , majoring in Music Education. Vocationally, Dr. Patton has been a professional musician, playing with a symphony orchestra and with such jazz greats as Lou Rawls, Les McCann, Kossie Gardner and Roy Ayers. He has also realized many mens' secret dream as a professional long haul driver, earning distinction as a Divisional and Regional Driving Champion, District Driver Instructor, Captain of the America's Road Team, and a member of the Federal Highway Advisory Committee for eight years. Rip has recently performed in “A Dream re-awakened: Geary Moore with the Freedom Riders Featuring Dr. Rip Patton.”

    “Jazz on the Triangle” is an annual series hosted by The Church of the Holy Trinity (Episcopal) located at 615 Sixth Avenue South in Nashville, in the lot bounded by Lafayette Street, Sixth Avenue, and Ewing Avenue. The concerts begin at 4:00pm Central Time. Tickets are $20.00 each, or a set of three tickets may be had for $45.00. Refreshments involving beverages and light snacks are found in the Parish Hall, at the rear of the Church lot, prior to and following the Concerts. 

    Past event was May 15, Sean Daniels Trio
    Sean Daniels is a percussionist and educator, who has performed with artists Lou Rawls, Kenny Garrett, Tommy Newsome, Carl Allen and Rufus Reid. He has been featured as a soloist with The Ohio State University Orchestra and the Tennessee State University Wind Ensemble. The trio includes Dr. Daniels on Vibraphone, John Birdsong, String Bass and Thomas Spann Jr., drums.Sean Daniels is a percussionist and educator, who has performed with artists Lou Rawls, Kenny Garrett, Tommy Newsome, Carl Allen and Rufus Reid.     Past event was June 19, John Birdsong Group
    John Birdsong, a/k/a “Bird” is known as one of Nashville's “most soulful” practitioners of the art of the upright bass. At Tennessee State University John performed on cornet with the Aristocrat of Bands with fellow musicians Billy Pierce, Wayne Hill, C.C. Johnson, and others. Ultimately John received a BS in Building Construction, a JD, and national certification in business and economic development. He took up the bass at age 32, and, following a 37 year career with the State of Tennessee has pursued a second career as one as Nashville's most popular jazz musicians.
