The Nashville Predators Foundation will host its annual Nashville Predators / Brent Peterson Celebrity Golf Classic, presented by First Tennessee, Franklin American Mortgage and PEAK, on September 9, 2011 at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin. Preds players, coaches, and executives are stationed throughout the course to act as mulligans for the foursomes.

The Celebrity Golf Classic features morning and afternoon flights with an awards ceremony to follow. Petey’s Preds Party and the Celebrity Golf Classic are highlighted by interaction with Nashville Predator players, as well as several other celebrity attendees from the sports and entertainment world.

Since Day One of the franchise, Associate Coach Brent Peterson has provided a stable presence behind the Nashville Predators bench. After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s several years ago, the veteran of 620 NHL games played and 1,201 NHL games coached recently stepped down from his long-standing position due to advancement of the disease. For the past few years, he’s hosted a charity golf outing to raise both awareness and money for Parkinson’s research. This year, Peterson and the Nashville Predators are joining forces to make the event bigger and better than ever.

“For the first time ever, we are combining the Nashville Predators Golf Tournament and my annual Golf Classic to create a fantastic two day event which benefits two worthy causes in the Nashville Predators Foundation and the Peterson Foundation for Parkinson’s,” Peterson said. “Not only will this event feature dinner, drinks, entertainment, an extensive auction and a full day at the Vanderbilt Legends Golf Club, it also gives attendees the opportunity to mingle with Nashville Predators players and other exciting celebrities.”

“Brent is a great hockey coach, but as his friends and colleagues know, he’s an even better person,” Nashville Predators General Manager David Poile said. “He’s constantly upbeat, full of energy and always has a joke. He’s someone you want to be around. It takes a big person to be able to handle a disease like Parkinson’s and Brent has never once wanted anyone to feel sorry for him. He’s the first person to poke fun at himself – always ready with a joke on days when his shaking or shuffling is more prominent. We are privileged to have Brent stay with the team as an important member of the Hockey Operations staff, serving as a voice of reason for Head Coach Barry Trotz and myself. He will also have a role on the business side of the organization and will soon begin having more interaction with fans and business partners.”

Petey’s Preds Party kicks off at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8 at Bridgestone Arena. This cocktail reception includes dinner, live entertainment and a world-class auction featuring one-of-a-kind experiences and premier autographed memorabilia from around the sports and entertainment industry.
