Join the Nashville Public Library on Friday, July 8th as we celebrate the grand opening of the new Goodlettsville Branch Library. The celebration starts with refreshments and music by The Hickory Boys, a local bluegrass band. The ribbon cutting ceremony follows with remarks from Mayor Karl Dean, Councilman Rip Ryman, and Library Director Donna Nicely. The library will be open until 5:00 P.M.

“The new Goodlettsville Library incorporates the newest thinking in library service. The central service desk, café vending area and flexible space create a community environment unlike any other branch in the system,” said Library Director Donna Nicely.

The Goodlettsville Branch Library was built in accordance with LEED Silver Certification guidelines. The environmentally responsible features include rainwater harvesting and drip irrigation, bicycle parking, electric car charging stations, pervious pavement, light color roofing and paving material, and a solar-ready roof.

At 16,000 square feet, the new facility is four times the size of the old Goodlettsville Branch. One of the most unique features is the interactive history wall. Wallpaper made from an enlarged antique map of Nashville and Goodlettsville forms the backdrop to an interactive touchscreen. Visitors will be able to access video, audio, photos, and text documents that highlight Goodlettsville’s history. The building also features a children’s area, teen area, over 35 public use computers, and a 100-person meeting room space. It is the first library in the system with a café style coffee and vending area.

Two public art installations were integrated into the new library design. Nashville artist Carrie McGee created the sculpture suspended over the round information desk. The acrylic and stainless steel sculpture, entitled Continuum, is made up of a series of “pages” that incorporate historical images of Goodlettsville. Lebanon-based artists Paige Easter and Dan Goostree will be creating mosaic designs for the gardens that will link the library with the neighboring elementary school
