According to Claire Cotts, the process of painting is kind of a miracle. The act itself, even after so many years, is still like magic to her. There is an archaic, alchemical quality to painting. At its most fundamental, painting is really no more than a piece of fabric or wood with pigment rubbed against it by a slender stick with hair on one end. But a few hours pass and there is the illusion of a woman in a darkened room, vaporous before the window.

Claire Cotts has been exhibiting her distinctive, richly layered figurative and abstract canvases for over twenty five years. Her work has been exhibited nationally, and is represented in numerous private and corporate collections. Cotts lives and works in Berkeley, California.

Exhibit runs August 6 through September 3. There will be an opening reception on August 6 from 6:00pm-9:00pm which takes place during the First Saturday Art Crawl Downtown.  There will be a Collectors Art Night and Artist Talk on August 5th, at 7:00pm.
