Nothing is better on a lovely southern day than the soft wailing of the blues played by Todd Simpson and The Mojo Child. Todd Simpson is a guitar prodigy from Birmingham, Alabama who was born with DiGeorge Syndrome. He has dyslexia and cannot read or write or even tune his own guitar. Yet he plays guitar by color….and plays he does: behind his back, behind his head, upside down, with his teeth,... and on the floor! Todd's musical talents are natural rather than self taught. Todd plays blues and rock n roll cover songs by legends such as Jimmy Hendrix, Kings of Leon, and B.B. King. Todd has created a new genre called “blues hip hop” in which he writes his original music that appeals to people of all ages.
Despite his young age, Todd has performed on stages across the country and has a world wide following. In fact, Todd and the band have played at the “Whiskey a GoGo” in LA and head lined for bands such as The Allman Brothers, The Marshal Tucker Band, and Paul Thorn. Todd’s incredible talent has been recognized by the blues industry in that he has won numerous blues competitions: the 2007 Magic City Blues Society Blue Challenge and the 2008 International Blues Challenge. And Todd’s capabilities as an entertainer have not escaped the eyes of Hollywood. Todd has starred as himself in the movie “Lifted”, by Lexi Alexander, which is scheduled to hit movie theaters in 2011. He has also been featured in a pilot for Bravo about singer/ songwriters in the South.
Health problems have hindered Todd from leading a normal and healthy life, but God graced Todd with the gift of music. Through his ability to play, Todd not only touches people’s lives but inspires society to have faith in the unique capabilities of the disabled.
Don’t pass up the opportunity to witness the magic of the blues with Todd Simpson and the Mojo Child!
