From 1817 to 1820, the John Bell family of Adams, Tenn., was visited by a terrifying being that became known as the “Bell Witch.” Generations of Middle Tennesseans have grown up hearing the legend and the appearance of the Bell Witch has been discussed by world-renowned authors of psychic material. Books, poems, plays, songs and ballets have been written about this strange phenomenon. But still the questions remain: What was it? Where did it come from? Why the Bell family? Come spend a day with Jerry Henderson and George Spain, whose extensive research has resulted in a play, as they go to Adams and attempt to answer some of these questions.
