Ohio alt-rock outfit Lovedrug originated with lead singer Michael Shepard’s attempt to give up music for film, including a stint of film school in NYC, before his first “love” of music “dragged” him back (hence the tongue-in-cheek band name). Yet the band’s new single and album, recorded in Lovedrug’s adoptive home of Nashville, oddly realize both interests. On the one hand, the recordings showcase indie songs with sufficient appeal to subvert the mainstream, a true rock band in live-to-analog-tape vein (think Jack’s Raconteurs). On the other hand, the new music video for “Dinosaur” was written and directed by Shepard. Ah, the ying and yang of it all.
