Peter Sheppard Skaerved is renowned for his performance and research on Niccolò (or Nicolò) Paganini (27 October 1782 27 May 1840). On his very first visit to Nashville in 2004, he created a stir with a flashmob performance in front of Delacroix's painting of Paganini, then hanging at the Frist. This was the spark which ignited the collaboration with composer Michael Alec Rose, which has not only resulted in a concerto, quartets, duos and numerous solo works, which Peter plays worldwide (he will be playing Rose's violin duos in Slovenia this autumn), but also the extraordinary exchange program between the Blair School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, London. This program is an energy furnace which, every two years, inspires four students (performers and composers) and the older musicians who are privileged to be part of it. In the spirit of this exchange, Peter presents an imaginary dialogue between Paganini and composers, young and old, alive and dead, who are important to him. The framework for the performance will be the press furor around Paganini's arrival in London in 1831. An evening of music, text and ideas. Peter is one of the few living violinists who has been invited to play Paganini¹s extraordinary violin, which he called ŒIl Cannone¹.
