October 28-October 29, 2011

Marvin Stamm's name may not be a household word among the general public, but among jazz fans and those in the know, he is regarded with awe and reverence. A soft-spoken individual, his trumpet overflows with warmth, musicality, and invention.
A veteran of New York's jazz and studio scene, Stamm has performed and recorded with some of the nation's top big bands (Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis) and artists (Frank Sinatra, Wes Montgomery, Paul Desmond, Lena Horne, and on and on). Based in New York, he records and performs with his Quartet (Bill Mays, Rufus Reid, Ed Soph), the Inventions Trio (Alisa Horn, Bill Mays), and with orchestras around the country. His discography includes nine CD's as a leader and over 50 CD's as a sideman.
Marvin Stamm's first visit to Nashville was in 2009 to honor his longtime friend, George Tidwell at the dedication of the George Tidwell Music Library at the Nashville Jazz Workshop. His one-night performance was electrifying, and a return engagement was certain to follow.
That return engagement happens the weekend of October 28-30. Evening performances are Friday and Saturday, October 28 and 29 at 8:00pm each night in the Jazz Cave at the Nashville Jazz Workshop. Tickets are $20, $10 for high school and college students, available by phone beginning Monday, October 24 at 10:00am. Joining Marvin for these very special performances will be the Lori Mechem Trio -- Lori Mechem, piano; Roger Spencer, bass; and Jim White drums -- with special guests George Tidwell and Denis Solee.
