Jim Lauderdale has won two Grammy awards and much recognition in the country, bluegrass, and Americana fields as a songwriter and performer. His Songwriter Session at the museum coincides with the annual Americana Music Association festival and conference. In 2002, Lauderdale won Artist of the Year and Song of the Year honors at the AMA's first awards show. He went on to become a recurring host of the Americana Music Awards. Lauderdale has released nineteen studio albums since the mid-1980s. His songwriting credits include the country hits "Gonna Get a Life" (Mark Chesnutt); "Twang" (George Strait); "We Really Shouldn't Be Doing This" (George Strait); and "You Don't Seem to Miss Me" (Patty Loveless). Solomon Burke, Elvis Costello, the Dixie Chicks, Vince Gill, George Jones, Buddy Miller, Ralph Stanley, and Lee Ann Womack also have recorded his songs. Followed by a signing in the Museum Store. Limited seating. Presented in partnership with the Americana Music Association (AMA) and SESAC. Included with museum admission. Free to museum members and to AMA conference registrants with badges.
