Wild West Weekend - Public Lecture Golden Eagle: Sovereign of the Sagebrush
The Golden Eagle is an icon of the American West. With a seven-foot wingspan and needle-sharp talons as long as a Grizzly Bear’s claws, this formidable predator is revered by past and present cultures. Join Dr. Charles Preston, Senior Curator at the Draper Museum of Natural History, for a multimedia journey into the world of the Golden Eagle and the real Wild West of the 21st century.
11:00am - 12:00pm
Wild West Weekend -Demonstration and “Fly By” by S.O.A.R. (Save Our American Raptors)
After learning of the great raptors of the West from Dr. Charles Preston, curator of the Draper Museum of Natural History, S.O.A.R. (Save Our American Raptors) will help visitors discover the South’s own birds of prey. S.O.A.R. will promote environmental awareness (and possibly thrill the bejeebers out of the audience) by combining music, video, and oh yes, live birds of prey which will fly right over the audience, giving a whole new meaning to the phrase “fly by”. This incredible experience is suitable for all ages and will definitely inspire a deeper connection to wildlife and the natural world.
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Wild West Weekend - Public Lecture?“The Other End of the Gun"
Join Warren Newman, curator of the Cody Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, as he presents “the rest of the story" about some of the exhibition’s more popular firearms.
