When transplanted Chicagoan Ren (Kevin Bacon, in a starmaking role) finds himself stuck in a Midwestern town where dancing is banned by a fire-and-brimstone preacher (John Lithgow), he decides to liberate the feet and hormones of a repressed generation with the help of one of the most successful soundtracks in music history. Featuring Chris Penn, Dianne Wiest, therapeutic angry punch-dancing, and the sounds of Jim Steinman, Bonnie Tyler, Shalamar, and Kenny Loggins.
