They're not blood kin, mind you, but they are some of the most original pickers, singers, writers and producers ever to turn out folk, bluegrass and country in this town. Their patriarch is the incomparable Cowboy Jack Clement, with whom most of The Whole Damn Family have spent formative time in the studio. They've been observing family tradition that is, getting together and putting on a big, rootsy holiday show for a couple decades at least. If you know Jim Rooney's Irregulars, you'll notice a lot of overlap in lineup. Rooney, John Prine, Shawn Camp, Dave Ferguson, Pat McLaughlin and Richard Bailey are all members, and you never know who else might show. Camp Shawn WholeDamn to you this night remembers a long-ago Thanksgiving picking party at Prine's place evolving into a rehearsal. But he reckons it's been six years since they've done one of these, and at least that long since they've practiced. So you're in for a skillful yet entirely unchoreographed rendition of Christmas Times A-Coming. Jewly Hight, Nashville Scene
