Add Review/Comment
Wayne Carson was elected to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame on the strength of classic songs such as "Always on My Mind" and "The Letter." A native of Denver, he relocated to Springfield, Missouri, where his parents established themselves on the Ozark Jubilee under the stage names Shorty and Sue Thompson. Carson began frequenting Nashville in 1962 and within four years achieved a #1 hit as a songwriter with Eddy Arnold's "Somebody Like Me." Carson wrote "The Letter," "Neon Rainbow," and "Soul Deep" for sixties pop band the Box Tops. He penned a string of country hits for Gary Stewart, including "She's Actin' Single (I'm Drinkin' Doubles)" and "Drinkin' Thing." Carson's credits also include Waylon Jennings's "(Don't Let the Sun Set on You) Tulsa," Johnny Paycheck's "Slide Off of Your Satin Sheets," and Conway Twitty's chart-toppers "I See the Want to in Your Eyes" and "The Clown." Carson has won multiple Grammy, CMA, and ACM awards. This interview and performance will be illustrated with vintage photographs, film footage, and recordings. Included with museum admission. Free to museum members. Carson will sign autographs immediately following the program.
