The name, Black Market Research, is inspired by the bands un-commercialized, self-funded, self-produced, underground, grass-roots origins that have fueled the band from concept to completion, using knowledge acquired through various gracious encounters with other individuals looking to further the band's career, without obligation or expectation. Known for their willingness to appear and perform at an assortment of charitable events, monetary gains have never been a facet of the band. Founders Troy Woodward and Nick Britt often refer to themselves as "the Amateurs," - those who do it for the love of......
Nick Britt has been writing and performing hard-hitting, truthful lyrics accompanied by his acoustic guitar for the past 15 years. His prolific songwriting combined with open tunings and melodic hooks has made him a "must see." Looking to further his music and add a full band, he relocated from New Mexico to Nashville, TN. Once in Nashville, Nick began playing countless open mics and singer/ songwriter events, meeting hundreds of musicians and gradually piecing together his own band. One of those musicians was drummer Troy Woodward. Nick and Troy sifted through several guitarists and bassists, playing at all of Nashville's premiere locations, and finally found the perfect fit in bassist Brandon Barrington. Immediately the chemistry was recognized and they began bringing the energy and passion present in Nick's music to an electrified live performance and sound. As a trio, Nick began playing electric guitars through vintage amps that proved ballsy and full enough to match the heavy thump of Troy's meticulous styling, and the outcome is music that is therapeutic to both artist and audience.
The full band, under the name Black Market Research, has self-produced and released their debut EP, "Insult to Injury," which is available on an extensive array of digital media distributors including iTunes, Amazon.com, Rhapsody, CDBaby, and more.
