Born and raised at the end of a dirt road in the hills of rural Pennsylvania, Adam Short was instilled with a sense of strong family values, a great love and respect for the outdoors and a blue-collar workmanship in his blood. His music speaks about his experiences along the back roads of his small town, from a broken family and broken hearts, to following his passion for music all the way to the entertainment industry in Nashville. It’s this same path that has guided him from being a natural entertainer to currently writing and producing his own music in the studio.
After having much success in his home stage of Oregon, in 2008 Darren Johnson packed up his car and drove across country to Tennessee to expand his audience and he hasn’t looked back. “I can’t explain it, I just knew it was something I had to do”, he recalls. “Step one was taking my music outside my bedroom, step two was taking it out of the state.” Said to have a sound “that nestles itself somewhere between Coldplay, John Mayer, and Mark Broussard” (The Buffalo Gap, Portland, OR), The Darren Johnson Effort gives new meaning to “a guy and a guitar”. As anyone who has seen him perform live can attest, his big voice, heart felt lyrics and catchy melodies, grabs your attention and doesn’t let go.
Rising Star 12 winner Robert Counts is back on our stage in Franklin! In Roberts own words- My name is Robert Counts. I'm 22 years old and I have lived in the Nashville/ Franklin area all my life. I have been playing music for 10 years and I have been writing for 7. I just graduated from Lee University with a degree in Biochemistry and i am currently studying for the MCAT that I will be taking in January. I will then be applying to medical school next summer. I am more or less taking a couple years to gain some experience outside of the classroom, laboratory, and hospital. I am an aspiring songwriter, and I am playing my music wherever they will let me. I would say that my genre is more Folk/Americana with a hint of Old Country. Some of my influences include ryan adams, NEEDTOBREATHE, Bon Iver, The Avett Bros, A.A. Bondy, and Mumford & Sons.
