A bracing combo of the sounds of The Killers, Katy Perry, and Foo Fighters! This is one description that can be given of Hypodive, NYC’s up and coming dance-rock band. To start, singer Jkln, from the small town of Roanoke, VA, finds herself in the “Big Apple” surrounded by a group of international and incredibly talented musicians. She began singing and writing songs at a very young age. The summer she graduated from high school she moved to one of the world’s most prominent metropolitan centers of music and performing arts- Los Angeles, California. In pursuing her musical career she met JV, a classically trained guitarist from Venezuela with a professional background in rock music, at an audition for his band “Reversal”. JV saw something extraordinary in Jkln, and the two began working together as a side project. In the beginning, JV remained with Reversal, and Jkln started her own band called “Strayve.” However, as the two continued to write songs and develop their sound, they realized what they had together was matchless! This realization resulted in the recording of the song “Release Me”, their first professional recording together. Shortly after the recording they decided to give up their other “projects,” pick up their guitars and suitcases and move to New York City to realize their dream.

The first opportunity to start a band in the City came when they met up with Chris, a bassist JV had known from when he had previously lived in the NY. Chris’ optimism and buoyant energy was infectious, and it didn’t take long for JV and Jkln to realize it also made his performance on stage one that would energize and excite an audience. After auditioning several drummers, the only one who could deliver the right amount of punch and accuracy was a Californian drummer named Chad. So Chad became the final member of the band, and the full roster ofHypodive was formed! In April 2010 all of the members of Hypodive flew to a Los Angeles recording studio to record their first CD. They came back to NY and performed in a variety of venues such as Le Poisson Rouge, The Knitting Factory Brooklyn, Arlene’s Grocery, Bowery Electric, Crash Mansion and others. Hypodive has quickly become known in the NYC music scene for their dance rock with a uniquely elevating vibe. In September 2010 they released their self-titled debut album full of high energy songs teeming with punchy lyrics.

With an ever expanding fan base, Hypodive continues to surprise and excite their audience both by their music and by a dynamic performance that will not let you go till it’s over! They are continuing to perform in the NYC area as well as national and international tours.
