Interview: Scott Borchetta, President and CEO, Big Machine Records

Add Review/Comment
One of Music Row’s youngest and most dynamic record executives, Scott Borchetta drives his career with the hands-on experience and risk-taking required of a pro auto racer—which he also happens to be. After founding Big Machine Records, he signed a fifteen-year-old unknown named Taylor Swift, then helped develop the careers of the Band Perry, Justin Moore, Sunny Sweeney, and Eli Young Band. His reputation led veteran stars Garth Brooks, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, and Rascal Flatts to work with him. The forward-thinking Borchetta grew up in a music-business family, climbing the ladder to become a top promoter, song man, and talent scout at MCA, DreamWorks, and Universal Music Group before starting Big Machine. Borchetta is among ninety-two new entries in the second edition of the Encyclopedia of Country Music, which will be published February 1 by Oxford University Press, in partnership with the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Museum staffer and encyclopedia co-editor Michael McCall will host the program.
