Practical Approaches to Ethical Dilemmas in the Life of a Professional
Moral confusion. Conflicts of interest. Right v. right dilemmas. Matters of duty, responsibility, and consequence. Ethical issues pervade professional life, and thoughtful reflection upon and resolution of ethical dilemmas are essential for leaders in the worlds of business, law, ministry, education, and healthcare. This interactive and practical session will assume that ethical decision making is more complicated than knee-jerk intuitions and lessons learned in Kindergarten. Session participants will be introduced to a practical framework for assessing and resolving ethical dilemmas and coached through application of the framework using a variety of scenarios from across the professional landscape. Session participants are encouraged to submit to Professor Perry a description a live ethical issue from their own real-life experience that may be incorporated into the session's materials. The description should be 1-2 paragraphs. Include enough background context, the issue, and what makes it particularly challenging.
