Nurses for Newborns will host their annual fundraiser, “A Night for Newborns” presented by Baptist Hospital and Middle Tennessee Medical Center on Saturday, January 28th at the W.O. Smith School of Music. Starting at 6 p.m., guests will enjoy dinner, drinks, an auction and a special performance by Nashville songwriters Don Sampson, Monty Holmes and Phil O’Donnell, who compose for artists such as Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson and others.
In addition to raising infant mortality awareness and increasing program funding, this year the organization will also honor Dr. Jorge Rojas, a longtime neonatologist who has significantly contributed to the growth of Baptist Hospital’s Beaman Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. He is also a past medical director of the Baptist Hospital Nurseries and NICU and Corporate Medical Director of Pediatrix Medical Group in Nashville. Dr. Rojas has more than 30 years of service to the Nashville community through which he’s tremendously impacted infant health.
Over sixty percent of the babies visited by NFN each year start their life in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. NFN works with hospital neonatologists and community pediatricians to improve the health outcomes of this high-risk population. “A Night for Newborns” provides needed funding to help us continue our mission.
About Nurses for Newborns: Nurses for Newborns (NFN) is a registered nurse based, home visitation program dedicated to reducing infant mortality by providing healthcare, parenting skills, education and support to at-risk families.
Nurses for Newborns of Tennessee was created through the generosity of former Tennessee Titan, Fred Miller and his wife Kim in 2001. Since its arrival, Nurses for Newborns has completed more than 45,700 RN home visits to more than 6000 at-risk families. In the 2011 fiscal year alone, they provided more than 4400 RN home visits to more than 800 medically fragile infants, teen mothers and mothers with intellectual or physical disabilities, or with diagnosed mental illnesses.
