Dir. Otto Preminger, 1954, USA, NR, 91min, 35mm

Leaving a wild-west stopover town in an out-of-control raft, saloon singer Kay Weston and her gambling husband Harry (Rory Calhoun) are rescued by Matt Calder (Robert Mitchum). To show his appreciation, Harry steals Matt’s horse and rifle, abandoning them and Matt’s young son down-river to hostile Indians, wild elements and scheming prospectors. Monroe never looked more radiant (or windswept) than in Otto Preminger’s 1954 Western river-running potboiler, filmed in widescreen cinemascope and mostly on location in the Rockies of Alberta. Look out for an opening scene-stealing Christmas-colored dress which just fetched a half-million on auction.
