Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s singspiel(literally “sing-play”) celebration of fantasy, romance and masonic values for the masses remains highly popular nearly 222 years after its Sept. 30, 1791, Vienna premiere – in fact, Operabase statistics show it’s currently the fourth most- produced opera in the world. And Director John Hoomes has waved his fun-loving wand over this high-production-value entertainment that also sports splendid voices and acting.

  Read Full Preview Nashville Opera’s final production of the 2012-13 season is a grand staging of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Performances are Thursday, April 11 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 13 at 8 p.m. at theTennessee Performing Arts Center’s Andrew Jackson Hall (505 Deaderick St.). The production is directed by John Hoomes, General and Artistic Director of Nashville Opera, and features the Nashville Symphonyunder the baton of Maestro Andy Anderson, who is making his first appearance with the Nashville Opera. The genius of Mozart shines bright in this masterfully diverse mix of unforgettable melodies, majestic choruses, and stratospheric, show-stopping coloratura singing.
