Art Making in the Lobby: Peace Flags

Thursday and Friday evenings from May 5 through May 31, 2012, visitors are invited to create miniature Peace Flags in the Grand Lobby using various materials and inspiration from Connecting Cultures: Children’s Stories From Across the World, on view in the Conte Community Arts Gallery from through June 3, 2012.

Peace Flags has been developed in conjunction with Connecting Cultures, an exhibition that celebrates Nashville’s diverse ethnic communities. The Peace Flag activity is based on the tradition of Tibetan Prayer Flags. Some suggest that Tibetans encourage the creation of prayer flags among all faiths to promote unity and peace. By imprinting their own flag with poems, prayers, and symbols, this art-making activity gives visitors an opportunity to express their wishes for the world. Art-Making in the Lobby is free and open to all visitors.
