AWARD: Jim Lehrer Recipient of the Jackson Award

The Jackson Award, named after our nation’s seventh president, Andrew Jackson is presented to recognize those who by their leadership and the courage of their convictions have taken positions that enhance the lives of Tennesseans and accordingly brought benefit and honor to the body politic. President Jackson forged new trails and opened new possibilities for both Tennessee and our nation. Everything he did, he did boldly.

This year, we will honor Jim Lehrer, veteran journalist of PBS’s NewsHour, with the Jackson Award. Mr. Lehrer’s career in newspaper and television journalism has spanned over 50 years, being awarded multiple Emmys, being inducted into the Television Hall of Fame and recently being presented with the National Press Club’s top honor, the Fourth Estate Award.
