Watkins College of Art, Design & Film announces the fourth in a series of exhibitions created and presented by students in the “Producing, Curating, Exhibiting” class, with Samantha Carlson’s project, "[dis]connect," on the Watkins’ campus. Admission is free and the public is invited.

"[dis]connect" includes work by Clara Andrews, Tiffany Petty and Carlson, all of whom have created installations that support the theme of human connection and disconnection.

Says Carlson, “Most people have had the chance to experience the joys of making a friend, or the unconditional love of another in their lifetime. Subsequently, most everyone has also experienced the intolerable loneliness of feeling disconnected from others. It is a universal occurrence. Visual artists have the gift of giving the invisible a tangible form: its own reality. By creating fully installed works within the enclosed spaces, it is as though the viewer can be isolated into the artist’s very own reality.”

Seven students in the “Producing, Curating, Exhibiting” class, taught by adjunct instructor Erika Wollam-Nichols, have worked to create five exhibitions in locations throughout the city, April 4 through May 4. This special topics class provides students with the opportunity to learn about exhibition practices as well as gain practical, hands-on experience in curating a show of their own, from selecting the work to presenting the final exhibition. The remaining show will open May 4 at Love Is Earth on Church Street downtown, curated by Corey Rosson.
