The sooner, the better. That is when an awareness and appreciation of art should be cultivated. The enriching experience of creating and interacting with art is critical to human development and overall well-being, and with art programs being dramatically reduced or removed completely from school curriculums, it is imperative that the greater community step in to ensure that children maintain a rich and meaningful relationship with art. On Thursday, July 5 from 5:00pm-8:00pm, Cumberland Gallery will host its 2nd annual Art After Hours event Start ‘Em Young: A Night of Art Appreciation for Children. Although this event is geared toward ages 4-9, all ages are welcome. Parents must accompany their children during the event. It is free and open to the public.

As part of Summer Selections, our summer long revolving group exhibition of gallery artists, there will be an array of diverse and accessible artwork on display throughout the gallery for kids and their parents to enjoy. There will also be fun and educational activities for kids, including a visual scavenger hunt, educational stations, and the opportunity to contribute to the creation of a large mural. Materials will be provided as well as refreshments. The Grilled Cheeserie food truck will be joining us again, providing their popular food and drinks outside for the duration of the event. Lucy’s Yogurt will also give a special discount on frozen yogurt and Cute and Comfy Shoes will have extended hours.
