Rufus Wainwright

Rufus Wainwright is back after a creative hiatus from pop music with a new album, “Out of the Game,” in which the artist chronicles his experiences of the last few years. Wainwright is going back to his roots on the 70’s-inspired album where the title track is said to have a slightly Laurel Canyon-meets-Young Americans tone. The rest of the album includes songs inspired by such giants as Elton John, Harry Nilsson, and Steely Dan mixed into the genre-blending and sense of songwriting ambition that characterized the best music of the 1970s. With so much inspiration, Wainwright’s newest music presents a variety of sounds ranging from a grand horns-and-strings arrangement to a doo-wop harmony and one rare pop song that “goes on a serious journey through different musical perspectives.” Rufus Wainwright is happy with his newest project and where he stands creatively as he says, “I think I sound the best of any album I’ve ever made – I’m hitting a plateau with my voice that’s very exciting.”
