Summer Saturdays at Tennessee Agricultural Museum

Summer Saturdays and fun-filled activities for the family are just minutes away at the Tennessee Agricultural Museum in Nashville. Special programs spotlight farm happenings from 9 AM to 2 PM, July 7 through July 28.

From buggy rides and butterfly hotels to heirloom gardening and horse shows, there will be different things for families to see and do each weekend. Grooming and riding miniature donkeys, milking goats, working with the blacksmith, making soap or stopping by the cabins to see woolly sheep, spinning wheels and weaving looms--it's a smorgasbord of activities! The museum, located at the Ellington Agricultural Center, features a two-story barn with over 3,500 artifacts plus log cabins, a farmhouse, gardens and nature trails.

Plan a trip to the Ag Museum and enjoy Summer Saturday activities. Or you can drop by during the week to browse and see exhibits that include quilts, household items, farm equipment, buggies, wagons and wood working tools.

For a schedule and more information about Summer Saturdays, call (615) 837-5197. SCROLL DOWN FOR DETAILS.

July 7 - Hold Your Horses! - Whoa!! Activities everywhere! Enjoy free wagon rides, check out the stables or watch the Mounted Police train Tennessee Walking horses at 10 and 11:30. To put some giddy-up in your go, they’re rustling up Spotted Saddle horses and more activities at the log cabins. Hang on! From the barn to the museum, there are horses, wagon wheels, side saddles and a multitude of farm exhibits. Calling all kids! Put on your boots for the stick horse races at high noon. Small fee for face painting.

July 14 - Flying High: Wild Wings & Creeping Things - Peek into the world of wild wings and creeping things—featuring butterflies, birds and bees plus the experts who study and protect them. There will be nets for catching the winged beauties, a huge butterfly hotel, busy observation bee hive and creepy-crawly stations everywhere. It’s a great chance to get close to a red-tailed hawk, touch an owl and see other birds of prey. Nature lovers can walk the Eagle Trail, check the mulberry tres and pick up some special summertime recipes. Looking for more fun? Stop by the Kid's Craft Corner to make a beautiful butterfly or an ugly spider.

July 21 – All About Goats! - Big goats, little goats—they’re just waiting for you. Bring your friends to help feed and milk them. Want to know about goat milk soap? Walk to the log cabins to visit with the soap maker. Children can use the old-fashion scrub boards and zinc tubs. This is a good weekend to test your skills at the weaving loom or check with our beekeeper to discover the secrets of bee keeping. Local honey available. Small fee for face painting.

July 28 - Old MacDonald's Farm - The farmer is bringing pint-sized donkeys, a spotted mule and baby goats to the Ellington Agricultural Center. Visitors can groom and feed the animals from 9 AM to 2 PM. Small $3 fee for miniature donkey rides. Look for wooly sheep, chickens, spinning wheels and wash tubs at the log cabins. Horses will be in the pasture. Remember to stop under the shade tree to help the blacksmith. The garden gate will be open and heirloom seeds available for purchase.
