Add Review/CommentThe Tony Award winning musical, Guys & Dolls, opens at the Cumberland County Playhouse, in Crossville. This hilarious, fast-paced musical comedy, sponsored by Looney & Chadwell Title Services and Kenneth & Carol Ann Chadwell, is written by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and based on the classic characters of Damon Runyon. Frank Loesser's bright, brassy, immortal score, takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba and even into the sewers of New York City featuring such memorable musical numbers as Luck Be A Lady, Guys and Dolls, I've Never Been in Love Before, and Sit down, You're Rockin the Boat. Director, Abigail Crabtree, remarks, 'Guys & Dolls is the greatest of the great American Musicals, winner of nine Tony Awards, and one of the happiest and funniest musicals ever!? Offering the perfect blend of plot, music and lyrics, and set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City, this oddball romantic comedy, considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy, soars with the spirit of Broadway as it introduces us to a cast of vivid characters who have become legends in the canon. Playhouse alums (and stars from Phantom back in 2004), Nicole Begue and Josh Powell, return to Crossville to tackle the roles of Sarah Brown, the upright but uptight 'mission doll,' out to reform the evildoers of Times Square; and Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love. Adelaide, the chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she's been engaged to the same man for 14 years is played by Chelsey Whitelock, who also returns to the Playhouse after playing Rhonda in last year?s smash hit, White Christmas. As Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiancé¬ always desperate to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game, the incomparable Jason Ross uses his great skill for comedy to perfection. Guys & Dolls plays on the main stage through August 26. This classic Broadway musical is not to be missed. With something for everyone, this raucously funny show with a fantastic cast will be great fun for the entire family. Don?t miss the chance to see one of the great American Musicals of the 20th Century.
