The Parthenon is pleased to present local painter Tony Teal in the West Gallery. This East Nashville artist finds inspiration in his neighborhood and its diverse residents. The few small blocks surrounding his house provide his subject matter, resulting in portraits, city views, and botanicals that offer glimpses of his eclectic neighborhood. The portraits include a fifty-something Caucasian woman named Susan; Jason, a fresh young teenager; Sister Right, who teaches the community about AIDS; and Dwayne and Nathan, an African-American same-sex couple. Teal renders his subjects in a straightforward manner, using bold, flat planes of color.

I went to Centennial Park last year to check out the Big Band Dances. They are really fun! It's more fun if you bring a date to dance with, but if not, you're bound to meet someone to dance with. I would go every single Saturday, but my husband doesn't get off work until after 9:00. I only wish they would switch up the days. Maybe Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons. It's really fun, though. Live swing band, huge dance floor, free lessons. Free admission! Parking wasn't too bad either when I went. Give it a try! Collapse

I love going to the weekly Swing dances in Nashville! It is a great way to spend an evening and an even better way to touch up on your Swinging skills. Even if you are not an avid Swing dancer, you'll be sure to enjoy watching others and listening to some of Music City's finest musicians. And best of all, it's free! Don't miss another Saturday.
