Unlike most blues artists of her caliber, Ana Popovic is not from a Southern state, nor is she American; Popovic is from the European town Belgrade, formerly Yugoslavia. Taking inspiration from her father's blues and soul records, she began studying guitar as a teenager, quickly developing her own style. While blues is Popovic's primary influence, she incorporated jazz guitar licks and rock chords into her individual sound. After earning the respect of European music advocates and releasing her debut album in 2001, Popovic quickly gained the admiration of American blues fans.
