The Nashville Country Dancers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to dancing the traditional dances of the United States (Appalachian squares and circles, New England contras and couple dances) and couple dances like waltzes. Like so many things American, our folk dances are indeed the result of other national dances stirred together in the melting pot of traditions. Contra dancing is a mix of long ways dances from England and Scotland and square dances from France. Volunteer run,the group sponsors weekly Contra dances and two weekend long events each year. All dances are taught and accompanied by live music. These dances are accessible to people of all ages and ideally suited for bringing the community together. No partner is required.

This program pays homage to some of the greatest American Classics. Three ballets will be performed: Filling Station, a rare comedic marvel which follows the lively activities of a busy day at the filling station. Enjoy the antics of some of the madcap customers who prance in and out of the station; Awaiting Redemption, a raw, melancholy, introspective look at love, real life and coming to terms with the wisdom that comes with age; Who Cares?, this gem of a ballet showcases the golden age of Broadway with the unforgettable music of George Gershwin, featuring some of his best known hits such as “I Got Rhythm,” “Strike Up the Band,” and “Embraceable You.”

Step into our enchanted forest where magical surprises come to play for three sets of lovers. One of Shakespeare’s favorite comedies comes to life in Nashville Ballet’s new and original adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. As Puck plays tricks on the ill-fated lovers, you will laugh as the antics of the night become resolved by the light of the day. Kenichi and his dance group seem to defy the realms of possibility with their unique dance moves that blend mime and hip hop with a taste of their native Japanese culture. Winners of the Apollo Theatre award, these young, creative dancers are the rage of the YouTube generation and promise an electrifying evening of humor and skills. Kenichi will be teaching dance workshops at the Global Education Center as well.

The Renaissance Center Dance Department will continue a series of Friday night open dance parties in which Davileen McNeely and Matt Stewart teach basic steps and then host an open dance party to put the skills to use. If you are new to dancing or need a venue to enjoy the skills you already have these social dance nights will keep you on your toes.

We're gonna rock down to ... Electric Avenue! The Gordon Jewish Community Center (GJCC) invites you to enjoy an 80's evening grooving to the tunes you've like ... totally forgotten about. Arrive at the GJCC Main Entrance for valet parking, check-in to receive your bid number and take a photo with your totally coolest buds. There will be a delicious strolling dinner provided by SOVA. Enjoy watching 80's videos, sipping on a cocktail or two, while bidding on the Silent Auction, live auction and Art & Big Boards. Don't forget about the awesome entertainment provided by Memphis' own AFTERGLOW.

The Main Event, the Gordon Jewish Community Center's annual fundraising event, contributes to our fitness center, preschool and general operations. It also provides scholarships for needy children and families to attend our summer camps and other programs. Your support is vital to the continued success and future growth of the GJCC.

Smoky Mountain Rodeo Assoc iation (SMRA) hosts country dancing and lessons at Play Dance Bar on the first Friday of every month.

The Fifth Annual 'Music City Mardi Gras: A Celebration of Hope,' benefiting the Lisa Ross Parker Foundation is scheduled on Friday, February 12th at the Cannery Ballroom in downtown Nashville featuring the hottest band in Nashville, Burning Las Vegas. Doors open at 7:00pm. Tickets are $25 each and include food and admission to the party. There will be a cash bar and the biggest silent auction in Nashville!

You may have seen VIBE Perform at numerous benefits, shows, or campus events. The show features diverse styles of dance, a variety of music, and performers from all backgrounds--Representing Hip-Hop like you've never seen it before. ONE NIGHT ONLY!

Also, the week of November16-20 as well as November 30-December 4, VIBE is doing a Graffiti tagging mural to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club of Nashville. Tagging is free of charge but donations of any amount are welcome and the mural will be displayed at the hip-hop dance show.
